Ryans father Gregg had discussed with him at age 12 buying a Kart to go racing. Sadly a month after that he was killed in a motor racing accident at Phillip Island, A place he was very fond of. That put a hold on the racing plans. At age 15 Ryan had an impressive kart test and was offered a drive at half price with the team he tested for, but money was an issue and it wasn’t an option to commit. Ryan played all sports well at school, and started his carpentry apprenticeship after year 12. Ryan saved his dollars and purchased a Gemini at age 27 and raced it in late 2008. He then finished 2nd in the hotly contested 2009 Qld Gemini series with 5 wins, 6 podiums, 1 pole and 4 fastest laps, missing one round due to foot
surgery.
He raced at the 2009 Gold Coast Nikon SuperGP in the Mini Challenge series still on his provisional motorsport licence and finished 3rd for the round. In 2010 Rod Dawson put Ryan into Super 2 for the season. He started V8 Ute racing in 2011 until 2016, gaining great race craft until V8 Utes changed management, and together with Multispares made the decision to go racing in TCM. Ryan has loved racing hard at the front with drivers of the calibre of Steve Johnson and John Bowe.
When asked what is something that the fans might not know, his answer,
I am a scruncher!
