14 YEAR OLD CREATES HISTORY WITH KUMHO V8 TOURING CAR ROUND WIN

This weekends round at Winton was Rullos second appearance in the Kumho Series after he made his debut at Sandown in late March.

It was an equally special moment for Rullo given his father Peter was also competing in the same field this weekend.

“Its an awesome feeling we had good pace all weekend said Rullo who turns 15 tomorrow.

“Its a good way to end my last day of being 14 thats for sure. Having the extra support of Dad here this weekend competing in the same event was great too.

Sydney driver Steve Briffa had a breakthrough weekend of his own in his Poco Furniture Commodore a trio of third place finishes in the three races netting him second overall for the round.

The result is his first Kumho Series podium finish in his third season in the category.

Eggleston Motorsports Liam McAdam completed the podium for the weekend and is the new leader of the series despite failing to finish Race 3 when his engine expired.

The teenager claimed pole position and Race 1 yesterday and won Race 2 this morning before the engine problem took him out of the race while leading.

Another teenager 15-year-old Perth driver Jake Kostecki looked to be on target to claim a podium result after McAdams retirement but failed to finish Race 3 after contact while trying to pass Jim Pollicina.

The rest of the field had varying dramas with pit lane penalties on-track contact and various mechanical dramas making for a mixed up overall top 10 round result.

Coverage from this weekends round at Winton will air on SBS Speedweek on Sunday July 5 at 3.30pm.

Round three of the Kumho Tyre Australian V8 Touring Car Series will be at Queensland Raceway on August 8/9.
